Finished Fused Fantasy

I can't begin to say what an enjoyable experience making this piece has been. The hand-stitching and beading wasn't all that bad, the machine quilting was a dream, and I'm in love with the look. I definitely need to do more of these. I know I have at least a couple of other sketches hanging around that would work.

One of the positive comments I received when showing off this piece was that I managed to achieve texture and depth with the hand-stitching, beading and cheesecloth. Fused work can look very flat, and that's definitely not me. We also played around with top / bottom / left / right. We were amazed to discover that we all liked the piece no matter which end was up! My husband stated from the very beginning that it looked like an alien on a futuristic Harley and now I can't get that image out of my mind. For a real up close and personal look, click here.

mexican woman wearing sombrero..dancing, twirling, skirt ruffling. Hi, I just had to get that down before I lost the thread in my head. I love your work. It is.... just happiness in fabric. Sort of looks like Melody Johnson's fabric. Anyway, I read you daily, or almost. Nice blog and wonderful talent. I'm from NY and an artist- quilter who is, up until recently, fairly traditional in both areas. I'm trying to get away from that but first I have a couple of UFOs to finish. Keep doing what you're doing its spectacular(did I mention Happy?) Dee

Thanks Dee - I love this image! Much better than the space alien :-) Yes, it's Melody's fabrics and ArtFabrik threads. I guess I'd better get busy and make more!

Hee, hee, he......yet another convert to the LIGHT side!!!!! Ain't it fun!!!??????!!!!!! Mel is the best. Well, so are you. I have GOT to make it out your way. Joey wants to come out and go snowboarding. He was SO jealous you guys have snow! A year ago today we had 8.5 inches. Today I was walking the dog wearing jeans and a t-shirt (ok, it was 53 degrees...what can I say, it's that time of life!!!!)

Glad to see you working!!!

I like the alien on a motorcyle image. Didn't see it until I read it... and it's so perfect!! gives an added sense of movement (flying/flying down the road).. to the piece.
