Gallery visitors often ask the question: "How long did it take you to make that?" I think they're looking for a response in terms of hours or days, or maybe weeks.

How does one measure the influences that have shaped the work? The first stitch I took with a needle and thread, the hours spent perfecting my skills, the countless classes and workshops, the kind words of encouragement from friends and fellow artists, the perfect rose that arrived when least expected, tears of sorrow, tears of joy? Experimenting with different fabrics, different techniques, different embellishments until magic emerges from the cloth?

The answer is simple: "A lifetime."
