Inspired by a week at Quilt / Surface Design Symposium, this month's journal quilt incorporates techniques learned and materials purchased while in Ohio. The background technique and the circular image of the sun represent the two days I spent with David Walker, while the cheesecloth represents the five days I spent with Ellen Anne Eddy. The seed stitch was influenced by Ilse Aviks – although I did not take her class, I was intrigued with her work shown during the teacher presentations. The meandering couched fibers are indicative of my journey from traditional quilting to art. The stacked beads represent the highs experienced by interacting with the many fiber artists in attendence – both students and teachers.

Materials: Commercial cotton batiks, silk organza, hand-dyed cheesecloth by Bobbie Vance, hand-dyed beads from St. Teresa's Textile Trove, hand-dyed tencel thread from Artfabr!k, fibers from Sally Houk Exclusives, Japanese seed beads, Artemis hand-dyed silk ribbon.

Techniques: cut-away machine applique background, fabric manipulation, seed stitch embroidery, couching, beading, hand-quilting.
